Recruitment Summer School 2020
Current Information About COVID-19 (Corona Virus)
Update 20.03.2020
According to the current status the Recruitment Summer School 2020
cannot take place as initially planned on 15.04.-22.04.2020 at the University of Cologne.
Due to the current situation regarding the Covid-19 Corona Virus, we have to change both the date and the format of the RTG-NCA Recruitment Summer School. To reduce viral spread and for the sake of everybody's health, we need to take into account all recommendations and policies of the authorities in charge and follow their regulations.
Therefore, we plan the reschedule the selection procedure
for 20.04. to 22.04.2020.
As we need to restrict personal interactions and according to our current plans, this event will mainly consist of interviews via internet based video calls.
Due to the current developments the situation might change and therefore may need to be reevaluated.
We will inform and are in contact with all participants about this via e-mail and on the website.

The next Recruitment Summer School will take place
April 15th to 22nd, 2020
The Recruitment Summer School offers an attractive course programme covering the research topics of the RTG-NCA (Motor Control, Control of Energy Homeostasis, Sensory Processing and the alterations of the former under Diseased conditions) thereby introducing the RTG PIs, their research and collaborative projects.
The overall schedule includes the following elements:
- lectures by faculty PIs
- experimental stations in research laboratories of RTG PIs
- presentation by the participants on current literature and their practical work
- interviews
- meeting the current doctoral candidates of the RTG and other local researchers
Lectures
During their lectures the PIs will introduce their research fields
and provide information about the research projects available.
Laboratory stations
In the afternoon each participant chooses one of the projects presented during the lectures and visits the corresponding lab. During the laboratory station co-workers of the respective PIs provide an insight on the methodology and scientific backgrounds on their research.
After the lab stations participants, who performed the same lab station team up and prepare a short presentation.
Participants’ presentations
Participants present what they learnt during the lab stations and the lectures. They share the experiences they collected during the previous day with the other participants and the RTG-NCA faculty.
Furthermore this is an opportunity to get an impression on what the other lab stations were about.
The recruitment summer school is a highly selective program offering a unique opportunity to the participating candidates to find out whether the RTG-NCA would be the suitable doctoral programme for them.
Vice versa the RTG-NCA faculty can assess the candidates’ skills.
After the summer school the PI assembly will make the decision,
which candidates to offer the PhD positions.
CV, copies of transcripts, motivation letters and letters of recommendation
belong to the RTG’s standard application documents.
Application deadline was
January 31st, 2020
Applicants will be informed about their admission to the Recruitment Summer School
during the second half of February 2020.
The RTG-NCA is funded by the
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft
